VDS CoBeNe Completion Grants


With the dissertation completion fellowships the VDS CoBeNe supports junior researchers of all disciplines in the last phase of their PhD project. If applicants have been employed with the University of Vienna before, there needs to be a period of six months between the end of the employment and the start of the scholarship. It is the aim of the fellowships that the PhD-projects should be finalized and submitted within the funding period of up to six months.

Call for 2024

  • Application deadline: 01.08. -01.09.24
  • Amount: € 1.050 per month (insurance and university student fee is not included and needs to be paid by yourself)
  • Start: after 01.10.2024
  • Duration: Maximum up to 6 months. The scholarship will terminate as soon as your dissertation is submitted

Requirements

  • Work on the dissertation must already be sufficiently advanced at the time of application that it can realistically be expected that the submission of the completed dissertation can take place at the latest at the end of the funding period (maximum 6 months)
  • Very good academic records (seminars, publications, conference presentations) 
  • A statement from your supervisor with his/her commitment to support your finalization phase
  • Compliance with the regulations for PhD candidates (doctoral thesis agreement, all annual reports, and TAC meetings)
  • If applicants have been employed with the University of Vienna before, there needs to be a period of six months between the end of the employment and the start of the scholarship

Multiple sponsorships by other institutions and/or the University of Vienna are excluded. The recipients are responsible for the possible taxation of the scholarship as well as the insurance during the period of the scholarship and are informed that in case of an annual net income of more than EUR 8.580,- this has to be taxed. If the stated general conditions are met, the final scholarship is considered "income from self-employed work".

Application documents

Complete the online application form and upload the last draft version of your doctoral thesis either as a monograph or as a cumulative thesis (in PDF format) and the following documents combined into a single PDF file.

  1. A report on the current status of the doctoral thesis including an abstract (1,000–3,000 characters without spaces), a tabular overview of the chapters including information about the completion status of each chapter, and a work schedule for the completion of the doctoral thesis (no more than ten pages including a list of references, font size of 11pt, 1.5 line spacing). Please use this template.
  2. CV in tabular form (no more than three pages including a list of publications and conference presentations, if available).
  3. Doctoral thesis agreement and annual progress reports.
  4. Transcript of records (“Sammelzeugnis”).
  5. Positive statement/s from your supervisor/s.

 Dimitrov Fellowship completion grant.

The fellowships are intended for the completion of a doctoral thesis in the fields of mathematics, natural and technical sciences at a university in Austria. Applications are welcome from the dissertation fields of Biology and Psychology (NaWi).

Young, highly qualified doctoral candidates in all fields of mathematics, natural and technical sciences are invited to apply,

  • who started their doctoral or PhD studies at a university in Austria no more than three years ago (deadline is the submission date),
  • are about to complete their doctoral thesis,
  • and have no other funding during the period applied for.
